Google Maps. Google Local. Google Places. Quit moving, already!

Google used to be such a nice, simple machine.

For SEOs, Google the Search Engine remains fairly simple, but Google the "place people go to look for stuff" continues to evolve.

The biggest area for change and innovation at Google these days is in the "local" search results - now branded as Google Places... and... well...

It changes every day. I am happy to stay up to speed on SEO, link building, and good old-fashioned Pay-Per-Click advertising, and plenty of other stuff.

There are even a couple of subjects on which I might be the World's Foremost Authority, but this "Google Places" stuff just wears me out, to the point that I don't want to be an expert at it.

I surrender.

It's a moving target... and I honestly, passionately, do not have any interest in taking on local business clients, so... to me, Local is more of a distraction than anything else.

Fortunately, Scott Gallagher does not feel the same way I do.

When I want to understand some new weird thing that Google's doing with the local search results - I go to Scott for an explanation. Scott cures my "tired head" and tells me what I need to know.

This week, Scott's beginning a series of videos on the opportunity that all this chaos and change in the local marketing landscape creates for people who know how to navigate local businesses through the system.
